Unfortunately, due to the increasing impact of the Coronavirus the College will be closed for the foreseeable future.
Why have you closed?
In the case of any extraordinary circumstances we always aim to remain open as much as possible. This closure has been directed by the government as a response to the national impact of the virus.
Will you be fully closed?
We are closed to the vast majority of students who attend the college, however, we will remain open to students in order to support families who may struggle for childcare because of their employment. We will also remain open for students with EHCPs or categories, all of whom we have already contacted.
The Key worker sectors include:
Health and social care
This includes but is not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributers of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.
· Education and childcare
This includes nursery and teaching staff, social workers and those specialist education professionals who must remain active during the COVID-19 response to deliver this approach.
· Key public services
This includes those essential to the running of the justice system, religious staff, charities and workers delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting.
· Local and national government
This only includes those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response or delivering essential public services such as the payment of benefits, including in government agencies and arms length bodies.
· Food and other necessary goods
This includes those involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery as well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (for example hygienic and veterinary medicines).
· Public safety and national security
This includes police and support staff, Ministry of Defence civilians, contractor and armed forces personnel (those critical to the delivery of key defence and national security outputs and essential to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic), fire and rescue service employees (including support staff), National Crime Agency staff, those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles, including those overseas.
This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.
· Utilities, communication and financial services
This includes staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure), the oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage), information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response, as well as key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services), postal services and delivery, payments providers and waste disposal sectors.
We will not be delivering formal lessons during this time, but will provide a study space within the college supported by staff between the hours of 8.30 -300pm. Students will be expected to bring work or access work via the available IT in The Hub.
There is no need to attend in uniform, however students should be provided with a packed lunch. Students leaving early or arriving late must be signed in and out by the parent/carer. We will not release students at all during the school day without specific permissions from parents.
What about School transport?
At the moment we envisage that buses and taxis will be running as normal, however if this situation changes we will let parents/carers know. Any students being dropped off and/or collected must not be dropped off before 8.25am or later than 3.05pm as we cannot guarantee we will have staff coverage at this time.
What are the expectations of my child while they are off?
Although we are closed we will still be expecting students to be accessing and completing the work that will be provided by the College. Please encourage them to do so, by providing them with a work space and allocating a set period of time where they are expected to do work.
How will my child access work set?
On the website is a summary of the work that has been set for each year group and the format in which that the work has been set. There is no need to print off work that has been set online, but there may be a need to save certain tasks and then print them off on their return to College. Paper based tasks may also be sent home with students over the remaining days.
Students may be directed towards specific websites, they may also be directed to complete work provided on line. Students without access to the internet should contact the college ASAP if we have not already discussed this with you.
My child claims free school meals?
We have provided vouchers for all families who claim free school meals to allow them to purchase food for lunches over the next two weeks. We await further guidance and instructions from the government in relation to how families will be funded for free school meals over the longer term.
How do I contact the College staff?
Enquiries regarding work should be directed to the specific class teacher, via email or Edulink message. Please note that responses will be made as soon as possible, but also bear in mind that all college staff may also be managing the impact of the virus themselves.
What about the exams in year 11?
The Government has confirmed that all formal public examinations for this year have been cancelled. We have had no clarification in relation to how grades will be awarded for students this year, and will advise you when we have further information.
Outstanding applications for college/ work/ sixth form should progress as normal.
How will I be kept informed of any updates?
We will communicate any updated information via the In-touch service, website and Edulink. General queries which are not work related should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org
When will you reopen?
We currently have no information on when we are likely to reopen, but will keep you informed as circumstances improve.
What if I have need to urgently contact the college?
