Student Hope has been busy fundraising for next year’s college expedition to Greece to work with Archelon, the Sea Turtle Society. She has been sewing fabric pots and working with Re-Imagine to source some recycled fabrics and remnants that were destined for land fill. Since November, she has raised £1,600 by attending craft fairs and selling via her Facebook page ‘Hope for Turtles’.
Whilst fundraising at Ely’s Aquafest on Sunday she was interviewed by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and this interview went out Monday’s show. This project is not only fulfilling Hope’s desire to conserve wildlife and help save our oceans, but it is also proving a huge opportunity to build her confidence, to practice good business and marketing and people skills. She’s collected many supporters along the way who have bolstered her confidence with their delight at the products and Hope’s attitude. She’s also inspired the local preschool to take on a recycling project to raise their awareness of plastic in the oceans and has been invited by the head teacher to talk to the local primary school about the project!
What a great learning experience this is turning out to be!
