The goal of keeping four pygmy goats at WVC has taken a step closer. Fundraising activities took place throughout the summer term to raise money to create a suitable environment for the goats and to fund their on-going costs. The goats will be school pets and college house mascots. The maintenance of their environment and welfare will be an ongoing duty that all students can contribute to, teaching them about responsibility.
With the help of National initiative Volunteer it Yourself (VIY), a group of students have been busy erecting a fence and gate for the goats pen. VIY challenges young people to learn trade and employability skills by working on community projects. They have provided the mentoring, tools and materials to build the fence and gate over a two-day period with some of our Year 9 and 10 students. The students involved are very proud of what they have achieved and we are very grateful to VIY. The next step for WVC is to build a shelter for the goats. Watch this space!
